HANCOCK -- During the winter, communities across the country often boast that they have the most snow.

Now there's an official list compiled by The Weather Channel on how the cities of the U.S. rank, and Hancock came in at number three.

With an average yearly snowfall of 211.7 inches and the snowiest month being January with nearly 66 inches of snow, Hancock beat out Truckee, California in the Sierra Nevada Range.

The Weather Channel also includes the Keweenaw County marker, showing the snowfall in 1978-79 of 390 inches.

Crested Butte, Colorado is number two and Valdez, Alaska is number one.

The entire list is viewable on The Weather Channel's website.
