MARQUETTE -- A five-phase project to renovate the marina at Presque Isle in Marquette is literally between a rock and hard place.

City engineers announced that the marina piers have deteriorated to the point that the rock inside them has crumbled and spilled out into the lake bottom. This would make phase one of the marina project, dredging, dangerous. As a result, the project is being reevaluated.

The Presque Isle Park Advisory Committee, Marquette Parks and Rec Advisory Board, and the Harbor Advisory Committee met with the public to discuss solutions to the problem.

Engineers plan to make modifications to the project over the next few weeks. They will then take their revised plans back to the public and eventually to the city commission.
