MARQUETTE -- A micro-brewing company is one step closer to opening its doors in downtown Marquette.
At last night's city commission meeting, commissioners supported the company's application to the state for a micro-brewing license.
The Spring Street location was previously Thompson's Auto, and years before that it was Frei Chevrolet. The company is currently awaiting all permit applications to be completed before construction can begin next month.
Owners plan to have the brewery itself on the first floor of the building, separated from the bar by a glass window.
"Ninety-five percent of the beer consumed in the U.S. is still produced by large corporations, and so anything we can do to work together as kind of the little guys in the craft brewing industry only helps provide more info to the public and consumers about quality and freshness of a locally-produced product," said Andrea Pernsteiner, VP of Ore Dock Brewing Company.
The company plans to open its door sometime in the spring.
