MARQUETTE -- The votes are in and on Wednesday, our Facebook fans wanted to know how effective internships are and what encourages companies to bring on interns.
Employers turned more than half of interns into full-time hires according to a new survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
That number is higher than ever. Northern Michigan University Career Services says that is likely because after individuals complete an internship, they're essentially ready to jump right into a job, where an outside hire would require more intensive training.
They also often see any intern experience lead to job offers from other agencies. Some of our Facebook viewers aren't convinced about all of the benefits of an internship.
"It is slave labor, free labor for anyone," wrote Facebook user Art on Ice.
"The trend is that more and more internships are being paid, particularly in the private sector," said Steve LaFond of Career Services.
