The National Weather Service office in Negaunee has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Marquette County Saturday morning with several Winter Storm Advisories for much of the rest of Upper Michigan.
A cold front associated with a low pressure system to our north will settle over Upper Michigan this afternoon bringing some rain to the eastern counties at first, but eventually a light snow for the central counties and then a rain and snow mix for the eastern counties.
Late Saturday night into Sunday is when a low pressure system moving in from the Central Plains will pass over Upper Michigan and start the heavier snowfall.
The eastern half of the U.P. will experience highs in the low 40s for Saturday which will minimize its snow accumulation to maybe an inch. The rest of the U.P. will have highs in the mid 30s. Winds will be mostly light out of the southwest.
Snow should stop by Sunday evening. The central counties will likely be hit the hardest with snow accumulations around 4-8." The eastern counties should also receive 4-7," and significantly less snow in the western counties with only a couple of inches at best.
