UPPER PENINSULA -- The TV6 Canathon has wrapped up another year. The grand total from collection points across the U.P. was 135,000 pounds of food.
The Salvation Army in Marquette was especially busy with many volunteers working hard to collect the donated food.
Organizations, such as the NMU hockey team and Alpha Sigma Phi, helped sort food into categories and stock the food pantry.
The food collected will help feed Marquette County families during the cold months ahead.
"Last year's Canathon, we were able to use the canned goods until almost May, so it stretched very well, and we were able to supplement it and we helped a lot of families with those donations," said Salvation Army Captain, Romana Arthur.
Of course Marquette wasn't the only place to collect food. The Canathon is a U.P.-wide event, and as always, all of the food will stay in the area it was collected.
