ESCANABA -- A 61-year-old Powers man has been sentenced to nine months in the Delta County jail for one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct.

Bruno Joseph Perino was also sentenced to five years probation and must register as a sex offender.  He did receive credit for four days already served in jail.

According to officials, the crime happened in February in Brampton Township.  Perino was employed as a bus driver there.

The alleged victim was a 10-year-old girl.

The sentencing follows Perino's trial where the jury found him guilty.

"I've read the letters of support that were presented to the court by members of his family, his friends. some of them who testified at trial, all of them expressing surprise, shock, and disbelief," said the prosecutor.

Many of those supporters say they were shocked by the allegation because Perino had no criminal history.
