MARQUETTE -- Letting yourself feel the holiday cheer is what the Marquette Choral Society hopes you will do this weekend. They present Carols in the Cathedral, their annual winter concert, featuring Christmas classics with a twist.
"We'll also be presenting a series of carols written in the Edwardian Age, British carols, from the late 19th century," said Director Floys Slotterback.
One hundred voices will revive the Christmas carols, from young to old, creating a unique sound, something members say Slotterback has done well in his 25 years as a director.
"He tries to pick out music that people will really relate to, but he tries to pick out different arrangements so it gives them a little different angle on some of the music," said Bob Heyd, a member of the choir for 30 years.
The familiar tune of Silent Night will highlight the ensemble, reflecting on what Christmas is all about, sung by those who love to serve others through a song.
"Everybody here is a volunteer," Slotterback said. "We don't audition for this choir..people sing because they love it and they just keep coming back."
And each year, so does the audience.
The choir will perform on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m., at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. Admission is free. For more information, visit the choir's website.
