MARQUETTE -- A Marquette restaurant known for its unique flavors has announced it will be closing down.

The Rubaiyat on Baraga Avenue will close its doors for the final time at the end of the year.

The Indo-European restaurant opened in 2009 after a successful run with their cafe in the basement of the Peter White Public Library in 2004.

The owners hope to keep their staff of 28 on the payroll as long as possible as they anticipate a busy month before going out with a bang on New Year's Eve.

"I have a feeling we're going to be very busy," said owner Aza Wolfcale.  "We've gotten a lot of emails and responses; folks are wanting to come and have Rubaiyat food as long as possible."

The Rubaiyat owners say they will continue their catering and wholesale businesses as well as keep their cafe going as long as possible.
