There has been much success with the program in Minnesota, especially in regard to missing persons and property crimes

FLORENCE CO., WI -- Borrowing from a similar Minnesota program, the state of Wisconsin has a new web-based crime alert system.

The Florence County Sheriff's Department thinks that it could help solve crimes and apprehend criminals more quickly. There has been much success with the program in Minnesota, especially in regard to missing persons and property crimes. Sheriff Jeff Rickaby believes it can save lives.

"For one dollar a month, if you can get an alert that there's a certain scam out there, or there's certain property crimes going on, or burglaries through businesses, I think that's probably worth $12 a year," said Florence County Sheriff Jeff Rickaby.
