Holiday decorations, crafts and gifts were sold to benefit the community and the churches in Big Bay

BIG BAY -- Shopping continued Saturday with fewer lines and fewer chaos, at least in Big Bay where the annual "Christmas in Big Bay" event was held.

The Community Presbyterian Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church organized the event. Holiday decorations, crafts and gifts were sold to benefit the community and the churches in Big Bay. Vendors offered crafts, gently used items and even baked goods.

"I think it adds a different meaning to Christmas from the real commercial boxed store; traffic, it's laid back, it's quiet, it's friends, it's community, it's good food. Here in Big Bay, we're known for good cooks, so it's a little bit of small town, and that, I think, is special," said Mary Ellen Krieg, a coordinator.

The event kicks off the holiday season in Big Bay as it is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
