BESSEMER -- Ski resorts in the area are gearing up for the season. At Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Bessemer, warm weather has kept the snow guns from covering the terrains, however, the owners said they expect to open no later than Dec. 10.

The resort also has an addition this yeara new lodge. Last January, Powderhorn's 40-year-old lodge burned down in a fire. The new facility is 20,000 square feet with a bar area, cafeteria, and a lounge.

"We always wanted to update our facilities and hoped to build a new lodge," said General Manager and owner Bruce Noren.  "We didn't want to build it the way we did; we really loved our old lodge, but this is going to be a great new addition to Powderhorn and a great addition to skiing in the Midwest."

Work on the lodge is expected to be completed before the season opens in December.
