MARQUETTE -- Hundreds of people turned out this morning for the Annual Marquette Community Schools Turkey Trot and Fun Run.

The Turkey Trot featured a 5 and 10 k run.

The first male and female from the 5 and 10k  were awarded a trophy.

Other participants decided to walk it with their pets.

The number of participants doubled last year's, with over 600 people turning out, including Marquette Mayor John Kivela.

"I've spent the last year and a half trying to get into better shape and this is a great event," said Kivela.  "So it's a good way to work up an appetite for the day and burn off some calories and support a good fundraiser."

Money raised from the run went toward the Marquette Senior High School Orchestra and Business Professionals of America.

Some participants donated food for the TV6 Canathon, which ends December 1.
