MARQUETTE -- With November being Adoption Awareness Month, Teaching Family Homes held an adoption forum for prospective parents at the Peter White Public Library.  The event was designed to raise awareness for adoption and help those interested in the process.

The forum provided literature and featured a Skype presentation from the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange.

Attendees learned about licensing requirements, what to expect during the process, and the various support systems for adoptive parents.

Organizers say there are over 6,000 children currently waiting for a home in Michigan.

"The kids experience significant growth in academics, in peer relationships and in self esteem as well.  The kids that I work with and see on a regular basis tell me over and over again they just want to have a family to love them," said Adoption Specialist, Kaytee Riley.

If you would like more information on how to adopt a child, you can contact Teaching Family Homes at (906) 249-KIDS (5437).
