MARQUETTE -- Most of us often opt to see a play that makes us feel good. But a story about a frog and a toad? Well, that's sure to leave anyone feeling great.
At least that's what NMU Theatre Director Ansley Valentine had in mind in this adaptation of 'A Year With Frog and Toad.'
"We thought we wanted to do something that would be fun and family-friendly," said Valentine.
And that it is. This award-winning musical based on Arnold Lobel's illustrated book, Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship between two amphibians living at the same pond. A perky frog and a worrywart toad keep their friendship alive with an assortment of hopping, crawling and swimming.
"This is such a nice, sophisticated piece," Valentine said.
"It's like a good Disney movie--it's good for adults as well as for kids--and I think that makes it a little different than some others."
These small creatures comfortably fit in Forest Roberts Theatre at the campus, but their message is much bigger.
"Be kind to your friends, and really appreciate the time that you can spend with people who are important to you," Valentine said.
'A Year With Frog and Toad' opens Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Saturday, Nov. 19. For tickets, visit www.nmu.edu/theatre.
