ESCANABA -- Escanaba High School is nearing completion on a major construction project to prepare for the addition of seventh graders next August.

The main offices were just completed, and in early December through May, the A section for seventh and eighth graders will be completed.

The multi-purpose room and the girls locker room were recently finished.  The high school currently teaches eighth through twelfth graders.

Some parents expressed concerns about younger students mixing with the older high schoolers.

"Well, we had parent and teacher conferences Thursday and Friday, and parents were really excited to see all the new spaces," said Escanaba High School Principal Doug Leisenring.  "And people now can see how we've split off a section into almost a separate school for seventh and eighth grade.  And we'll maintain that segregation that parents asked us to make when we decided to move those two grades here to the high school."

The construction project is expected to be completed by May of next year.
