ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming Area Historical Society has been named 'Charity of the Year' by the Ishpeming Business Association. To celebrate, they'll be making a few changes to the way they currently raise money.
The society used to rely heavily on donations and ticket sales from the annual historic home tour. The society wants to make its events more interactive by kicking off a new campaign on Saturday with a historic dinner at the Butler Theatre: an eight-course dinner, with a dance troop providing entertainment.
"The idea is to make it fun, to make it different. Maybe you have something kicking around you've worn as a costume for Halloween in the past," said David Aeh, vice president of IAHS.
Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are a $50 donation to the organization.
