NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- About a year after his death, a fallen soldier with Upper Peninsula roots is being honored for his bravery in Afghanistan.
Sawyer born Specialist Jesse Adam Snow served the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. Last November, he got caught in a massive fire fight and gave his own life to save other soldiers.
Just recently Snow was awarded the Silver Star for his brave actions. Although Snow's family still grieves their loss, his father, John, says that he's proud his son could rescue another solider who still had so much more life to live.
"Most people would think that I would be pretty bitter, but our family is real proud of him because the man he saved had three children--a six year old, a three year old, and a baby boy he never met until he returned home," said Jesse's father, John W. Snow.
Snow was buried in Fairborne, Ohio where he spent most of his life, but his family says he spent many summers in the Copper Country and was a Yooper at heart.
