NEGAUNEE -- Tenants at an apartment building in Negaunee were forced to leave their residence on Thursday morning.

A neighbor at 307 Brown Avenue noticed the smell of smoke coming from an adjacent apartment around 10:30 a.m.  Both Negaunee police and fire departments responded.

Firefighters used thermal imaging to search for hot spots within the walls.  However, authorities were not able to detect anything other than the odor of smoke.

As a precaution, residents of the apartment building were not allowed back in until an electrician deemed it safe.
