MARQUETTE -- During the month of November, Marquette residents can wipe out their library fines and feed a hungry neighbor at the same time.

Peter White Public Library has started its Food for Fines campaign to collect food for the TV6 Canathon.  For every non-perishable food item brought in, you will get one dollar off your fines for overdue books.  This program has been used on and off for the last 20 years, and library staff say while most people are embarrassed by their overdue fines, some people actively enjoy them.

"Actually kept items overdue just so they could participate in Food for Fines; they kind of think it's like cheating or getting away with something, so that's kind of fun," said Library Director Pam Christiansen.

The Food for Fines campaign will run through December 7.
