IRON MOUNTAIN -- Think back to the days of grade school science class and imagine every student with their own personal laptop. For some, laptops hadn't even been invented yet. But that's reality for these fourth grade students.
"They're used to coming in, logging in first thing. They get their assignment, their folder, their grade level folders; they click on that, show what they need to do for that day," said teacher Jennifer Christy.
Today they're learning about photosynthesis. They'll draw pictures, then through the new classroom technology, they'll match up the pictures to a song and watch the completed project afterwards.
"Overall, they are doing better. It's interactive, it keeps them engaged through the whole class period," Christy said.
It wasn't one specific grant that made all this technology possible. The new science program, the computers, the projector, that was all individual donations by parents, friends of the school, and members of the community.
The kids don't seem to mind the new things either. They learn a lot through hands on instructional videos and even some clips from Mythbusters.
It's safe to say that these kids are learning, as well as having a good time.
