ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP -- A Keweenaw County man is dead after a weekend car crash.

According to the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday on the 5 Mile Point Road in Allouez Township.

A car driven by 38-year-old David Paul Simons of Calumet failed to negotiate a corner, ran off the road, and hit the embankment and some trees.  His passenger, 53-year-old Jeffery Paul Brusso, died from his injuries.

Simons left the scene of the crash.  He was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.  He is lodged in the Keweenaw County Jail with bond set at $100,000.  Further charges are pending as alcohol is considered to be a factor.

The authorities continue to investigate this incident.
