SAWYER -- On Wednesday night, Sawyer residents were without power for several hours due to an act of vandalism.

Around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the UPPCO Operation Center in Green Bay received a notification of a power outage at the Sawyer substation.  A crew was dispatched and they soon discovered that someone had thrown an object on the power lines causing the circuit breaker to trip.

UPPCO workers warn that activities like this can be very dangerous.

"So you're talking 12,500 volts.  It's a pretty good hit to somebody, definitely burn, maim, or kill anybody that came in proximity or contact with that high of voltage," said Substation Supervisor Dan Gervae.

On a separate note, UPPCO has scheduled a power outage for midnight on November 11 to place a portable substation on line.  They will make repairs to the substation and put it back on line with another outage sometime the next week.
