MARQUETTE -- A third grader at Sandy Knoll Elementary School in Marquette got a first class ride to school Tuesday as part of National Fire Prevention Week.

Fellow students greeted Elise Wilcox with cheers when she rode up in a big red fire truck Tuesday morning with Sparky the fire dog.

Wilcox was awarded the experience after Marquette Firefighters picked out her poster depicting fire safety.

She says fire safety is incredibly important, and explained her family has their own emergency plan.

"We just feel the door, then we quickly go out and we meet by a tree in our yard.  We meet by either our garage or our tree in the yard, and if one of those is on fire, we go to our mailbox.," said Elise of her family's fire escape plan.

Wilcox says she loved riding in the fire truck but admits it did get a little bumpy.
