NORWAY -- Just outside of Iron Mountain there's a place that's truly a UP hidden treasure. Nestled just off of US-2 is a little farm that the casual eye might not notice. As you drive around to the back you're greeted with the welcoming sight of grazing alpacas.
The Rainbow's End Alpaca Farm not only offers tours, but a store full of clothing made with alpaca wool.
They harvest wool from the alpacas once per year, clean the fur and spin it into yarn all on the premises. Alpaca fur is quickly becoming one of the most sought after fibers in the world. It’s extremely soft, and five times warmer than sheep’s wool.
“Alpacas are a very gentle animal. They have a very sweet disposition. Just laying and grazing is pretty much their day. They're very, very sweet,” said Rainbow’s End owner Mary Lynn Verley.
The farm has guided tours Monday through Saturday. They presently have 21 alpacas, and they’re all very friendly.
“It’s the perfect place to bring the kids on a Saturday,” Mary Lynn says.
