MARQUETTE -- Churches across the nation will ring in the month of November, including here in Marquette County.

The Upper Peninsula Home Health Hospice is sponsoring the annual Bells for Hospice ceremony on Tuesday at noon.

This leads off National Hospice Awareness Month.  The group will host a ringing bell ceremony in the Marquette Commons at noon.  Organizers say the event aims to bring to people's attention the benefits of hospice care, while righting misconceptions.

"Hospice is a very special kind of medical treatment option," said Executive Director Jeff Nyquist.  "Unfortunately to this day the families that are in hospice - the number one comment we hear from them still is, 'If we only knew about hospice sooner.' "

Organizers say over 60 churches are expected to participate in the event.  At 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday there will be a presentation about hospice care at the Peter White Public Library.
