Other safety trainings will be held next month.

SKANDIA -- West Branch Sportsman Club helped hunters familiarize themselves with their firearms on Sunday. In Skandia, this weekend was the first of two weekends where they'll follow the yearly tradition to ensure the safety and accuracy of hunters.

Firearm wielders aimed at targets 25, 50, and 100 yards away. They teach techniques that will prevent injury.

"You want to be totally concentrating on the sights; don't worry about the trigger," Sportsman Club Trustee Earl Littich said.

"You don't want to jerk the trigger, you want to squeeze and let it surprise you; that'll ensure that the bullet will go where it's intended to go."

The safety training will be held again on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6. The charge is $5 per gun.
