The care packages project has shipped more than boxes of toiletries, DVDs, and letters from home to soldiers across the globe.
IRON MOUNTAIN -- Parents who lost their son, LCPL Eric A. Palmisano in battle in 2006 said the Iron Mountain community has helped turned their tragedy into triumph.
The care packages project has shipped more than boxes of toiletries, DVDs, and letters from home to soldiers across the globe. Today a group of volunteers packed 155 packages to send out just in time for the holidays, including some special Christmas stockings.
"4- to 500 letters, thank you's, e-mails we've received over the last five and half years," Bobbie Samme, mother of Palmisano, said.
"Overall, the primary thing they're most grateful for is the fact that strangers took the time to send items to them."
It cost $12.90 to ship each package. That money is raised from local donors. On Saturday, Thrivent Financial Lutheran and UPCAP presented donation checks to the organization.
