ESCANABA -- An Escanaba man was jailed Friday morning for allegedly stealing a car.

The Michigan State Police in Gladstone say that things started with the report of a hit and run in Rapid River at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.  They were also alerted that the vehicle involved was reported stolen.

Troopers located the suspect vehicle on US-2 near Gladstone.  They arrested the 53-year-old man without incident for unauthorized use of an automobile.

The man's name is being withheld pending his arraignment.
