MARQUETTE -- Low vision patients looking to help their eyesight can now explore a variety of devices offered at the Superior Eye Health Center in Marquette.

A presentation at the Center Tuesday showcased what patients can do to maximize eyesight.  The units range from specialty eyewear to audio-generated devices.  They benefit those who already wear conventional glasses or contact lenses.

"We want to be able to still cook ourselves a meal, and we want to be able to entertain ourselves either through watching television or reading a book, if possible.  If we can maximize the vision that you have, using some of the assistive devices, then we keep your quality of life better," said optometrist, Dr. Heidi Johnson.

Most of the devices are free for veterans and are covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
