ESCANABA -- A group of Escanaba Middle School students are using their Halloween spirit to raise money for veterans.
The students are holding a pumpkin decorating contest this week. Over a dozen students will bring in pumpkins and their classmates will decide which one is the best by putting change in each pumpkin's jar.
Once the contest is over all the change collected will be donated to the Honor Flight program in honor of Veteran's Day.
Seventh grade student Dominic Gibbons says he came up with the contest after seeing it for an event in fourth grade.
"I've done it before and I had a lot of fun doing it," said Gibbons. "And I can tell that all the kids have had a blast so far decorating pumpkins because it's a whole lot of fun."
The winning pumpkin will be announced on Halloween.
