TIPS offers classes to anyone in the restaurant industry
MARQUETTE -- Bar owners and bartenders know firsthand the challenges of handling over-served customers. That's why certified trainers from a program called TIPS offer classes for responsible alcohol management.
The classes talk about actions bartenders or servers can take when dealing with minors or intoxicated customers. The students then act out different bar situations.
"This training gives people a lot of different ways that they might handle a situation so that they have the possibility to be effective if something does happen," said Amy Manning, general manager of Superior Entertainment Center.
"It also helps to reduce liability because the establishment and the servers of alcohol are personally liable if something happens."
It is mandatory for at least one supervisor at every establishment to be certified.
