MANISTIQUE -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources hosted an open house Tuesday to discuss proposed forest management treatments for the Shingleton management unit.

It took place at the Wyman Nursery in Manistique.

For the 2013 fiscal year, they'll be looking at 42,000 acres in east Delta, east Alger, and Schoolcraft County.

Foresters and wildlife biologists were there to address proposed treatments like replanting, timber harvesting, and other management activities.  But DNR officials said they sometimes don't get any participants.

"We're giving them the opportunity, but we just don't see big results in turnout.  I guess around here, we're a rural area, so people are used to the timber sales and harvest of timber," said DNR Unit Manager, Bob Burnham.

The formal review for the designated unit will be Thursday, November 3.
