(AP) -- Good news for those on Social Security: you're getting a raise.
January 1, recipients will get about a 3.5 percent increase.
This is the first pay hike since 2009. The 55 million beneficiaries will find out they're exact raise on Wednesday.
This is the annual cost of living adjustment, or COLA, and is based on a measure of inflation that Congress adopted in the 1970s.
