ESCANABA -- A 23-year-old Gladstone man has been charged with second degree child abuse after allegedly assaulting a four-year-old boy.

Allen Joseph Brunette allegedly beat a child who was under his care.
    
The child was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital Friday morning, then transferred to Marquette General, where he remains in intensive care.
    
Brunette is being lodged at the Delta County Jail with a $15,000 cash bond. 

He faces a maximum sentencing of four years in prison.
