DELTA COUNTY -- The Delta County Board of Commissioners recently unanimously approved wind zoning for Delta County.
There is currently a wind turbine project underway in Garden Township in Delta County.
Heritage Sustainable Energy has leased more than 10,000 acres of land in the Garden Peninsula. The 14 wind turbines will generate sustainable energy and income. Officials say Delta County is one of a few others in the U.P. with a wind zoning ordinance.
"This has been a partnership between the Garden Community, the Garden elected officials and leaders, Delta County Planning and Zoning, and Delta County Commissioners," said EDA Director Vicki Schwab.
The ordinance places standards on things like sound pressure levels, tower lights, and safety features.
