MARQUETTE -- The Facebook Story of the Day on Thursday was about haunted houses: where there are and can you visit them. Well, with the area's rich history, there's bound to be some paranormal activity.
According to local paranormal researchers, there are many places in the Marquette area that people claim to be haunted.
One such place is the old orphanage in south Marquette, where many have claimed to see children playing outside and heard voices coming from the building. Since the orphanage is privately owned and in great desrepair, you cannot go inside.
However, one place you can visit for a nominal fee is the Lilac Room at the Landmark Inn. It is said that a woman haunts the room while mourning her lost love.
Members of Superior Paranormal, a local investigation group, say there are many haunted houses in the area, but more people are too afraid to say anything.
"Yeah, I think there's a lot more here than people are letting on, and I think people have a lot of things going on," said John Wasey of Superior Paranormal. "But they are just too either afraid or they just don't want to know or they just deal with it."
Other places rumored to be haunted include the Forest Roberts Theater, plagued by a former janitor, and Whitefish Point, where many claim to see ghosts of ships that have sunk.
