HOUGHTON -- The Houghton Police Department showed the public their new weapons at last night's Houghton City Council meeting.
The department replaced their old .40-caliber pistols with new ones. Funding came from confiscated weapons and their old weapons, which allowed for the change.
The new Glock pistols are preferred among other police departments. They also come with lights attached to them for nighttime advantage.
"Our old weapons were that old, they were 15 years old, and it was time to switch them out," said Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly. "Our weapon is a tool that we may have to rely on, and it has to be dependable. There's no exceptions."
Seven guns were replaced for the seven full-time officers in the department.
