MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The competition may be heating up more than ever before in this year's Noquemanon Ski Marathon.

Organizers have announced the cash purse total for the 2012 race will equal $4,000.  They say the new purse total will likely bring in more professional racers from out of town.

They'll also be capping off the number of racers at 1,300 this year in order to better prepare for the race.

Currently they're working on updating the trail and other additions to give each racer the best experience possible.

This year's race will take place January 27 and 28, 2012.  They hope to have 500 people registered by the end of September.  The fee for the race does increase the longer you wait to sign up.
