WILSON -- The Hannahville Indian School in Wilson had a dedication Friday for a life-sized Eagle Dancer sculpture made by one of their former students.
Erynn Teeple got the inspiration for the sheet metal creation from a native arts magazine.
Teeple graduated last year and was in the gifted and talented program.
It took around six months to create the welded sculpture. It was a collaborative effort between the art class and the welding class.
"It means a lot, because the school has done a lot for us students," said Teeple. "It's a really close community, close school. I just wanted to do something to give back to them. You know, this is something that'll be here forever, you know."
The school plans on installing a solar light in the future.
The 24-hour illumination will cast a shadow on the wall that looks like a soaring eagle.
