They're finally getting a chance to see the memorial created for them
ESCANABA -- More than 80 U.P. veterans are preparing for takeoff Thursday on a journey many say will be the trip of their lives.
It's the first-ever Upper Peninsula honor flight through the Honor Flight Network. The network is a nonprofit organization that was created to honor veterans for their sacrifices for our country.
They will fly out of the Delta County Airport early Thursday morning and get a chance to see the World War II memorial as well as several other Washington, DC memorials.
They'll return to the U.P. late Thursday night. The entire trip is free of charge.
The goal is to give aging veterans the chance to actually see the memorials that were created for them.
TV6's Nikki Davidson will be onboard the flight. She'll be posting updates and pictures on the TV6 Facebook page throughout the day.
