BREITUNG TOWNSHIP -- The US-141 bridge has been under construction for nearly nine months, but the Michigan Department of Transportation says it is right on schedule.
The 86-year-old bridge connecting Breitung Township and Niagara, Wisconsin has been under construction since January.
MDOT says they have run into a little trouble during the project and still expect to be finished by November. The new bridge is up and crews are working to put the finishing touches on the project.
"All the concrete diaphragms are complete," said Mike Premo of MDOT. "Right now they're forming the deck, and the first deck pour is going to be tomorrow. There's a number of deck pours that have to be done and then obviously, the railing has to be placed and then the approaches and the guard rail. So there's still a fair amount of work to do."
The bridge is expected to open up for traffic on November 10. On Veterans Day, November 11, it will be renamed the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
