ISHPEMING -- Flu season is just around the corner, and that means flu clinics are now open.

The Marquette County Health Department was at the Ishpeming Senior Center on Tuesday, giving flu shots.  They expected to have over 100 people show up.  The vaccination is free for anyone with Medicare, Medicaid or insurance.  If you don't have insurance, it's a $25 charge for adults and $8 for kids up to age 18.

The vaccination gives the immune system a chance to recognize the virus, giving you a fighting chance when the flu bug comes around.

"It's very serious, people can get really sick," said Laura Fredrickson of the Marquette County Health Department.  "Some people die from the flu, so it's important to come out and get protected so you don't get sick or as sick."

For anyone who missed the flu clinic and would like to get a vaccination, the Marquette County Health Department will be hosting another clinic this Friday at the Marquette Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
