SAULT STE. MARIE -- Cloverland Electric is warning its customers of a phone scam using the company's name.

The company was alerted to the scam by a member.  Apparently, the phone scam has the caller claiming that they represent Cloverland, and that the member has won a car.  They then ask for a credit card number to cover the taxes on the vehicle.

According to the complaint, the called ID showed Jamaica, and another phone in the home showed an area code of 876, which is from Jamaica.

Members of the cooperative who may receive such a call are encouraged to not give out personal information.  Hang up and contact Cloverland to alert them of the situation.
