The Department of Natural Resources has reported a 15-acre wildfire in Marquette County located in a remote area of Powell Township north of the Yellow Dog River.
No structures are threatened by this fire, and DNR fire crews are making significant progress in containing the fire. Powell Township Fire Department and Keweenaw Bay Indian Community firefighters are assisting in the effort.
"The fire is burning through rocky terrain with difficult access and very limited water sources," said Allan Keto, Upper Peninsula Resource Protection Manager for the DNR's Forest Management Division. "The general public is asked to avoid entering the area as there are concerns about trees falling over after the fire moves through and burns the roots."
Conditions remain dry, and fire danger is elevated throughout many parts of Michigan. Please check to learn more about the fire conditions and burning restrictions in your county.
