A big name retailer is hoping to make a sizable impact in small communities here in the U.P.

MARQUETTE -- Lowes of Marquette is donating two picnic tables and four trees to certain organizations throughout Marquette County in their annual Hero's Project.

Six organizations in the county will receive the donations.  One of the recipients Friday included the Y.M.C.A. Early Day Care playground at Vandenboom Elementary School in Marquette.

"The importance is just reaching out to the community so the community realizes that Lowes cares," says Jeremy Wright of the Lowe's Commercial Sales department.  "Not just about what we're selling, but also about the community we're impacting and how we impact and how we affect, in this instance, the youth that's coming up next."

Lowes' associates volunteered their services off the clock in the assembling and staining of the donated picnic tables.
