MARQUETTE -- Marquette area residents gathered in the federal court house, but instead of a trial, it was a night of learning.
Wednesday marked the second week of the eight-week long "People's Law School" which provides an overview and analysis of Michigan's legal system.
The night's topic was family law, presented by Karl Numinen. Numinen spoke mainly of "collaborative divorce" which is an out of court, less adversarial way to end a marriage.
This is the third year for the law school, and many have attended more than one year to stay sharp on the topics that concern them.
"It's a lot of good common knowledge, it touches the surface on a lot of things, it doesn't go too in depth, but it gives you enough to understand what's going on," said second year student, Dave Darling.

Next week's course will involve employment law.
