MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- This clinic is a godsend.
That's what U.P. pet owners had to say about the Spay Neuter Express, a vet clinic on wheels that provides low-cost spay and neuter services.
"I've waited six-and-a-half years to get her fixed, and I just couldn't afford it until now," says Mary Shannon of Deerton.
A typical vet charges over $200 for a spay or neuter. But express prices range from $50 to $65 for dogs and $30 to $45 for cats.
With U.P. shelters overrun with cats and dogs, the new unit is an answer to their prayers.
"The less animals we have, the more we can do for the community, so it's going to be awesome to see the effects of the numbers of animals that are going to be spayed or neutered these three days. I'm wondering how many less animals we'll see this spring," says an UPAWS representative.
The organization, which is based out of the Grand Rapids area, performs 50 surgeries per day.
If you missed the Spay Neuter Express Wednesday, they'll be in Negaunee Township Thursday and in Gwinn on Friday.
