MARQUETTE -- Business owners on a portion of Third Street in Downtown Marquette will now be a part of the expanded Downtown Development Authority.

After months of discussion, Monday night, the Marquette City Commission voted for the DDA to continue its business district up Third Street.

The vote was preceded by overwhelming support from various Marquette business owners.

Current members of the DDA say the move will help promote the downtown.

"It's a great idea," said DDA President Tom Vear.  "The downtown has been growing and thriving for the last 15 years; Third Street's been doing the same thing, but I think there's a lot of synergies that can happen with the business and the development of the businesses down Third Street with the downtown."

Vear also says the DDA will now figure out what type of benefits this new partnership will provide and how to use the additional funding appropriately.
