SAWYER -- Over a 160 people teed off for a good cause Saturday at the Red Fox Run golf course.
The Warrior Relief Fund organization hosted a golf tournament to raise funds for the residents at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Each player paid $40 to donate to the fundraiser.
Organizers of the fundraiser say attention to veterans' needs is especially important ahead of Sunday's 10 year anniversary of 9/11.
"Sometimes people might forget that in the past 10 years, there's been families affected by it daily with all the deployed service members out there," said Liz Mathie, founder of the Warrior Relief Fund. "So it's not just September 11th, it's the 10 years between also, and it's going to continue with long-term deployment and things. So we need to continue supporting service members as an ongoing effort."
Organizers say community reaction and support has been overwhelming.
The event had 36 local sponsors.
